Counselling works to alleviate your experience of depression, burnout, anxiety, or struggle. It addresses what life factors influenced you to get to where you find yourself right now. It can include a discussion of your self-esteem, your connection to friends and family, love relationships, work experiences, spirituality, as well as family of origin, culture, and childhood experiences. Your perceptions, thought processes, behaviours, and motivations will also be explored.
Prior to our first meeting, I will send you a consent form that outlines the confidentiality of the counselling process. The first time we meet, I’ll have you tell me your story, what you are experiencing, and what’s going on in your life. From there, I help you articulate your goal(s) and we set out to reach them. Most clients report feeling “lighter” after our first meeting, as if a load was taken off their shoulders. Clients often report improvement with 3-5 sessions, over which they debrief their life experiences, process their perspectives, and activate towards a positive and meaningful future.
